Connor McDavid does it again. The rookie sensation ended the night with 2 goals and 3 assists for 5 points. This is just one, of the many great nights we’ve seen from him. Benoit Pouliot and Jordan Eberle also had 4 points each. The line combination of McDavid, Pouliot and Eberle have been red hot as of late. Tonight was another example, with 13 points combined between the three.
Jake Gardiner, and Josh Leivo scored for the Maple Leafs (19-25-9), who have lost three in a row.
Jordan Eberle scored three goals and added an assist for the Oilers (22-29-5), who snapped a three-game losing streak.
Toronto had no answer for Edmonton’s offence, along with Cam Talbot making 34 saves out of a possible 36. Jonathan Bernier made 30 saves out a possible 34.
With Connor McDavid in the lineup the Edmonton Oilers are a much better team. I guess you could say the same about Jordan Eberle. Having both of them back definitely helps, and gives the team a little bit of hope. Although, a playoff run is doubtful, the future is bright as can be.
Of the players acquired Tuesday in the nine-player trade that sent captain Dion Phaneuf to the Ottawa Senators, only forward Colin Greening was in the Leafs lineup. Milan Michalek (broken finger) and Jared Cowen (hips) did not dress. Also out injured for Toronto are Nazem Kadri, (lower body), James van Riemsdyk (foot), Stephane Robidas (lower body),Tyler Bozak (upper body), Joffrey Lupul (middle body) and Shawn Matthias (whiplash)… Out for the Oilers were Oscar Klefbom (lower body), Andrew Ference (hip) and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (hand).
