Artemi Panarin became the first rookie this year to reach the 20 goal mark Wednesday, with his hat trick against the New York Rangers. He’s dominating the rookie scoring race, ahead of Jack Eichel; the second leading rookie scorer, by 18 points. With that being said, why is there any question about the Calder this year? One proposition is that Panarin is not a “true rookie” and that he’s played professional hockey before his time in the NHL. Another point is that he is playing next to the best player in the NHL, that being Patrick Kane. There are many more points being made by others.
With that being said, in your opinion, does he deserve the Calder? Or do players like Larkin, Eichel, Domi, and Gostisbehere deserve it over him.
