The Calgary Flames have traded veteran winger David Jones to the Minnesota Wild in exchange for goalie Niklas Backstrom and a 2016 6th round pick.
Jones, 31, has 9 goals in 59 games this year with the Flames along with 15 points and a -8 rating.
Tha Flames acquired Jones along with Shane O’Brien in a trade that sent Alex Tanguay and Cory Sarich to the Colorado Avalanche in the 2013 offseason.
The Flames pick up Backstrom’s contract. Backstrom hasn’t played since 2014-2015. In that season, the 38 year old posted a .887 save percentage and a 3.04 goals against average. Though it appears to be the pickup of a contract, it’s being reported that Backstrom will report to the Flames and could play.
