The Calgary Flames have announced they have traded defenseman Kris Russell to the Dallas Stars for defenseman Jryki Jokipakka, forward Brett Pollock and a conditional 2016 2nd round pick.
Russell, 28, has 4 goals and 11 assists in 51 games this season with the Flames to go along with 8 PIM and a -4 plus/minus rating. Russell had a league record last year for shots blocked in a season with 274. A hard working defenseman with an offensive upside will be a great contributor to the Stars playoff run this year.
Jokipakka, 24, a former Calder Cup winner, is in his second season with the Stars. In 40 games this year he has 2 goals, 6 points and 6 penalty minutes along with a +1 rating.
Pollock, the Stars 2nd round pick (45th overall) in 2014, is playing his 4th season with the Edmonton Oil Kings of the WHL. He has 25 goals and 67 points in 63 games along with a +21 rating.
The conditions of the pick are if the Dallas Stars make it to the Conference Finals and Russell plays 50% of the first two rounds it will become a 1st round pick.
Their is no salary retention from either team in the trade.
