Oilers gain size, acquire Patrick Maroon from Ducks

The Edmonton Oilers have acquired forward Patrick Maroon from the Anaheim Ducks for defensive prospect Martin Gernat and a 2016 4th round pick.

The Ducks will retain 25% of Maroon’s salary over the next 2 years.

The Ducks acquired forwards Brandon Pirri and Jamie McGinn today so this trade doesn’t come as a surprise.

Maroon, who’s 6’3, 230lbs, has played all of his NHL games with the Anaheim Ducks. This year he has 13 points in 56 games with the Ducks. Along with that he also has 54 penalty minutes and a -13 rating.

Gernat, 22, was drafted in the 5th round by the Oilers in 2011. He has spent the entire year with the Bakersfield Condors of the AHL. In 22 games he has 3 assists and 14 penalty minutes. Gernat is 6’4, 205lbs.
