ST. LOUIS — Having found a way to use depth, battle adversity and overcome a season-long struggle with injuries, the Blues have earned the franchise’s 40th trip to the playoffs, and find themselves in a battle for the top spot in the Central Division and Western Conference. The Blues have just 6 games remaining on the regular season docket, the first of which will be played tonight against the Colorado Avalanche at Scottrade Center.
For St. Louis, it will be about finishing a strong regular season and carrying their momentum into the playoffs. They’ve had a masterful month of March, going 9-2-0, with an opportunity to finish it out at 10 wins. The offense has found a new level, having scored at least 3 goals in 11 of their last 12 games. The goaltending has been spectacular, combining to post 4 consecutive shutouts for the first time in franchise history over the last 4 games. Team chemistry has been on the rise as players have returned from injured reserve.
There is a whole new level of hope right now for the Blues, who are attempting to erase the haunting memories of their playoff past. They are hungry, they are determined, and they are playing with a high level of skill. It’s now going to be about taking the success and building upon it. If they do, they will be ready, and dangerous, come round one of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
