Edmonton Oilers Phenom Connor McDavid, who led all rookies with 11 assists and 16 points in 15 games, has been named the NHL’s Rookie of the Month for March.
McDavid outdid Buffalo Sabres teammates Sam Reinhart (4G, 8A, 12P in 15 GP) and Jack Eichel (6G, 4A, 10P in 14GP), Arizona Coyotes left wing Anthony Duclair (3G, 7A, 10P in 14 GP), and St. Louis Blues center Robby Fabbri (3G, 6A, 9P in 12GP) for the honor.
McDavid, who was the 1st overall pick in this past 2015 NHL Draft, grabbed at least a point in 11 of his 15 appearances in March, highlighted by a seven-game point streak March 14-26 (1G, 9A, 10P). He also had five multi-point performances, led by a pair of goals – including the overtime winner – in his first NHL meeting with Eichel, the No.2 overall pick last year, on March 1st.
He has been spectacular in his play this year, pacing all rookies and is third in the NHL with an average of 1.07 points per game this season (15G, 30A, 45P in 42GP). McDavid won Rookie of the Month last October (5G, 7A, 12P in 12GP) and February (5G, 12A, 17P in 14 GP)
