Lightning captain Stamkos out 1-3 months with blood clot

Tampa Bay Lightning captain Steven Stamkos has a blood clot in his arm and will have surgery, general manager Steve Yzerman announced Saturday. Stamkos will be out 1-3 months.

He was out of the lineup for a 3-1 Lightning win against the New Jersey Devils. That was the first game Stamkos missed since March 6, 2014, when he returned from a broken leg causing him to miss 45 games that season.

Stamkos will have vascular surgery Monday and is expected to make a full recovery.

He leads the Lightning with 36 goals and 64 points.

Jonathan Drouin may get a recall from Syracuse of the American Hockey League.
