Every season, one team gets to claim themselves as the Central Division Champion. This season, it’s going to take a final game number 82 of the regular season for that team do so. It’s sets up for an epic finish to a spectacular division race, and it’s going to happen in 24 hours.
Here is how it all breaks down:
Both the Dallas Stars and the St. Louis Blues are sitting at identical 49-23-9 records and 107 points. Dallas is sitting at the top because of the tiebreaker ROW (regulation/overtime wins) points. This ensures the following…
Dallas will win the division and Western Conference home ice if they defeat the Nashville Predators at home on Saturday.
The St. Louis Blues will win the division and Western Conference home ice with a win against the Washington Capitals, coupled with a Dallas Stars loss to Nashville (either in regulation or in overtime). An overtime loss will only allow them to win the division if the Stars lose in regulation against the predators.
Both teams will have their hands full, as both the Stars and Blues will be squaring off against playoff teams. The Stars defeated the Avalanche Thursday on home ice, and the Blues are coming off a critical, come-from-behind win in Chicago against the Hawks.
The Stars will play host to the Predators, who are coming off an overtime win at home against the Coyotes on Thursday evening. The Predators saw goals from Shea Weber and Filip Forsberg in the third period before Roman Josi put the Preds in the win column with his overtime tally. The three goals were scored in succession and capped a respectable come-from-behind effort.
The Blues will finish their regular season at Scottrade Center against the Washington Capitals. The Caps locked up the President’s trophy and are going to take home ice throughout the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Their impressive 55-17-8 record is the best in franchise history. Though they dropped their last game against the Pittsburgh Penguins in overtime Thursday, look for them to come out quick and hungry against St. Louis.
It’s going to be a fantastic finish to the 2015-2016 regular season…
