Toronto Maple Leaf fans rejoice after winning the 2016 Draft Lottery

The Toronto Maple Leafs won the 2016 NHL Lottery Draft tonight, making the most of their 20% chance to come away with the first overall pick. The other winners with the new format this year were the Winnipeg Jets and the Columbus Blue Jackets, who moved up to the 2nd and 3rd overall pick. The losers from this years draft lottery were Edmonton Oilers who finished 29th overall got bumped down to the 4th overall pick and the Vancouver Canucks who were 28th overall, now hold the 5th overall pick. Maple Leaf fans will be celebrating tonight, after a year where the franchise went in full rebuild mode.

The projected top 3 picks in this years draft are Auston Matthews, Patrik Laine and Jesse Puljujarvi. Matthews being the number one prospect since before last years draft, has done nothing but reassure everyone of why he’s number one. Laine and Puljujarvi, both came on especially at the World Junior Championship tournament where they lead their team to gold.
