Flames hire Glen Gulutzan as the teams new Head Coach

Today the Calgary Flames announced that they have hired Glen Gulutzan as the teams new head coach.

Gulutzan, 44, is the Flames 16th head coach in Flames history replacing Bob Hartley.

This is Gulutzan’s second stint as a head coach in the NHL. He coached the Dallas Stars from 2011-2013 where in two season failed to make playoffs both times. His record in those 2 season was 64-57-9.

Previously he spent two years in the AHL with the Texas Stars where he took them to the Calder Cup final.

He spent the last three seasons as an assistant coach in Vancouver.

The announcement comes a week before the NHL Entry Draft which will be held on June 24&25 in Buffalo, NY.
