Flames acquire Chiasson from Ottawa

CALGARY, AB — The Calgary Flames have acquired RW Alex Chiasson from the Ottawa Senators in exchange for defender Pat Sieloff.

Based on initial reports the Flames have signed Chiasson to a one-year contract in the $800,000 range.

Chiasson 25, is a native of Montreal, Quebec, he played 77 regular season games for Ottawa in 2015-16 picking up seven goals and eight assist for 14 points and 45 penalty minutes. Since being selected by the Dallas Stars in the second round of the 2009 NHL Draft, Chiasson has scored 38 goals and added 44 assists for 82 points and 150 penalty minutes in 239 career NHL games.

Calgary being short on right wingers, it is likely Chiasson will have an opportunity to contribute in an offensive role. This is a buy-low investment that may pan out for us next season. A worthy move from Flames’ management
