NJ Devils Season Preview and POV

With the NHL Season upon us it is time to reflect upon the amendments that went on this season:

Who? With the acquisition completed by Ray Shero by trading defender Adam Larsson for Taylor Hall from Edmonton.

What occurred from summer to now? A seismic shift from last years team occurred. Taylor Hall trade, signing Yohann Auvitu from the Finnish League, signing Kyle Quincey from Detroit.

Michael McLeod, Blake Speers, Colton White were signed to Entry Level Contracts. Prospects on the rise for a long term view.

Where is it all happening? Ray Shero’s front office and the scouting department taking a step forward to this 2017 draft class. NHL Central Scouting graded 29 players are listed as “A” graded prospects.

When is a playoff push going to occur? If Ray Shero and company are feel with extra assets for 2018 there could be a deal to acquire a young player under contract or go for a potential great player on defense and a forward to round out the bottom 6 lines.

Why should this matter? As the Devils were flirting around the 8th spot last season but fell shy of it, and I can see if Shero sees the trade to bolster the Bottom 6.

What has happened in the past is the 2012 playoff Devils had Steve Bernier, Ryan Carter, and Stephen Gionta giving opponents a hard time.. especially Henrik Lundqvist in the Eastern Conference Finals.

The Will To Win? As soon as Ray and company find the key cogs to round out the chemistry on and off the ice the Devils front office should be very occupied solving who will be dealt, and who stays. Another matter is the Expansion Draft for the Las Vegas team coming up.

This matters because Ray Shero wants to preserve the players he does not want to expose with the expansion format. http://www.generalfanager.com/teams/expansion 7 forwards to protect or 8 skaters, 3 defenders or 8 skaters, and 1 goalie will be protected.

From what I feel after last year to this year I currently see 92 points maybe sneaking in a wild card spot. But I still feel 1 better player can add 4-5 more points.
