NJ Devils Season Opener

Welcome back everyone it has been a long wait since we last had puck drop between these two teams.

The skinny: Johnathan Huberdeau and Bjugstad are out for awhile due to serious injuries for Florida. Tonight Beau Bennett and Reid Boucher will be scratched per Andrew Gross (Bergen Record) earlier today.

What to think about DSP on the Hall-Rico (Henrique) is that they should have a speedy sniper in Hall. Adam Henrique is a speedy playmaker who can absolutely compliment Taylor’s ability after 2 years in Windsor together, and the success of preseason. Rico and DSP will look solid because Devante Smith-Pelly who is a physical, big body, quick foot, and he loves to attack the crease where goals last year were not being cashed in.

Cammalleri with Zajac and Palmieri:

Cammalleri is a sniper he’s someone that needs to isolate himself from defenders while Zajac a good playmaker who has an under utilized shot could set up Cammy for a one-timer. Kyle Palmieri is a physical multi-talented winger who is your go to sniper where he can not only score on even strength but also power plays.

With a player like Josefson he’s not a physical guy but he’s gonna have to be a stronger and smarter stickhandling left wing tonight. He also is very effective on the power play and the shootout.

With Pavel Zacha at center making his season debut after a nice start vs. Toronto. Zacha is a player who can be a sniper, power forward, and a playmaker in one package with his height, weight, and speed.

PA Parenteau the new right wing in tonight shall become a real nice crease rat and at least contribute a lot even with a mix of this line with finesse from Jacob, power from Zacha, and smarts from PA who has played with great veteran forwards on former teams.

Wood-Fiddler-Speers: With a strong young physical body guy like Miles Wood I feel he’s gonna be a great compliment to Vernon Fiddler who is a great face-off, penalty killer, and veteran savvy center. Wood has been a good points producer at Boston College. Blake Speers who maybe up for only 9 games at this time may give us Devils faithful an impression that he could be a Tyler Johnson style player who can be a speedy playmaker. The one knock I have on Blake is beefing up on muscle if he does get sent down to Sault Ste. Marie in The Ontario Hockey League.

With defense looking like it’s improving Greene with Severson can help one another because Greene will be more stay at home and Damon can begin to become a long term offensive-defenseman similar to Drew Doughty when healthy and confident.

John Moore as a 2-way defender can be a fourth forward the way he carries the puck to provide offense and play defense in the neutral zone. Veteran defenseman Ben Lovejoy can be a stay at home guy but he did score in The Stanley Cup bringing Lord Stanley to his resumè and that adds value to his game.

Auvitu-Quincey pairing to me looks like with Yohann’s speed, and playmaking ability he can also complete Quincey who can also play stay at home defense and can indeed be a nice offensive minded player too. But I do see these two at time switching lines.

  • With Cory Schneider looking like the starter in net I see a very interesting game with a shortened depth Panthers team with Bjugstad and Huberdeau out.
