Semyon Varlamov to have season-ending hip surgery

Colorado Avalanche goalie Semyon Varlamov will undergo season-ending hip surgery.

It is another negative in a season of disappointment thus far for the Avalanche. There is a lot of questions that are without answers right now in Colorado, as this team looks to have fallen apart.

Where the blame falls is not much of a mystery. The Avalanche are having an Oilers-like problem, with their offence vs. defence. They for sure need to look at their group of forwards and figure out who they want to keep and who to move. Because as it stands right now, the Avs defence is not good enough to win. That is proven by their 13-31-2 record this year.

Although, as we get closer to the NHL Expansion Draft it looks pretty clear-cut to leave Varlamov unprotected. The Avalanche may have more of a future with Calvin Pickard backstopping them.

Varlamov is 6-17 this year, with a 3.38 GAA and .898 Sv%.
