Evgeny Kuznetsov is the NHL Player of the Month

Evgeny Kuznetsov has been named the NHL’s Player of the Month, followed by Bruins forward Brad Marchand and Sharks defenseman Brent Burns.

The ‘three stars’ of January all played extremely well.

1st star, Evgeny Kuznetsov

Kuznetsov put up 7 goals and 13 assists, for 20 points in 15 games to power the top-dog Capitals to a 12-2-1 January. He put up at least a point in 11 of the 15 games and put up seven multi-point games. Kuznetsov also placed third in the NHL with a +13 rating this month. He had a great month of January and has really kicked it into high gear, after a slow start to this campaign.

2nd star, Brad Marchand

Marchand had a great month of January, scoring 11 goals and 9 assists in 14 games to guide the Bruins to a sub-par 6-6-2 January. He had a point in nine of the 14 games, having his third career five-point performance. It was also his second of the season, on January 14th vs. the Flyers when he scored twice and dished out three. He ranks sixth in the league with 51 points in 53 games this season.

3rd star, Brent Burns

Brent Burns was an absolute force on the blue line this month. He put up six goals and had 12 assists, for 18 points in 14 games to lead the top-dog in the Pacific to a 9-4-1 January. He had a point in 10 of the 14 games and had six multi-point efforts. The Sharks would not be the same without him. Burns is currently fourth in the NHL, with 53 points in 51 contests.
