Sebastian Aho is the NHL’s First Star

This week we have a couple young and promising stars in the NHL 3 Stars of the Week.

It’s headlined by Hurricanes forward Sebastian Aho, who had a really good week on the score sheet. Mikael Granlund for the Wild is the second star, while Kings‘ goalie Peter Budaj grabs third star.

Let’s take a look at how their week went:

Sebastian Aho – 1st Star

The young Aho had 4 goals and an assist, for 5 points, to help the Hurricanes win all three of their games. He had two game-winning goals, and on January 31st had his first career hat trick. It was a really good week for Aho and the Carolina Hurricanes. The 35th overall pick from the 2015 NHL Draft is fitting in well this season, and currently ranks third amongst rookies with 16 goals and tied for sixth with 31 points.

Mikael Granlund – 2nd Star

Granlund finished the week with three goals and three assists, putting up six points, to tie for first on the week. The Western Conference leading Minnesota Wild won two of their three games. He had a great end to the week, scoring his first career hat trick and added one assist in a 6-3 win over the Vancouver Canucks. The native of Finland has been a force to be reckoned with this season, leading the Wild with 48 points and is currently riding a franchise-best 12 game point streak. That is the longest point streak in the NHL this season.

Peter Budaj – 3rd Star

Peter Budaj has been really, really good for the Los Angeles Kings this year. The 34-year old has been solid, filling in nicely for the injured Jonathan Quick. He was 3-1-0, with a 1.62 goals-against average, .930 save percentage, while posting two shutouts to help the Kings keep their top wild-card spot this week. Budaj has been spectacular this year, putting up a 25-15-3 record with a 2.02 goals-against average, .920 save percentage and a league-leading seven shutouts.
