The Calgary Flames beat the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday night 3-1 but that wasn’t the biggest story of the game. The biggest story came courtesy of a spear in the first period.
At 7:41 in the first period, as Calgary forward Alex Chiasson headed towards the players bench, he proceeded to spear Flyers forward Nick Cousins in the mid section. This occurring in front of linesman Devin Berg and Chiasson was grabbed and then given a 5-minute major for spearing and a 10-minute game misconduct penalty. It was originally a double minor penalty but at discretion of the referee’s he was awarded a 5-miunte major.
This coming on the same day as Detroit Red Wings forward Gustav Nyquist was handed a 6 game suspension for his spear to the face of Minnesota Wild defenseman Jared Spurgeon. WATCH:
The question now will be does Chiasson get a call from the NHL Player Safety Department? Let us know what you think of the incident.
