Neuvirth stands tall, Flyers extend series with a 2-1 win

After allowing 12 goals in 3 games, Steve Mason was taken out of the net and the Flyers let Michal Neuvirth take the reigns as the Flyers came into the nights action down 3-0. It would prove to be worthwhile as Neuvirth made 31 saves en route to a 2-1 victory.

Things got started early when the Ghost (Shayne Gostisbehere), scored a power-play goal and his first career playoff goal, 5:51 into the 1st period and got the place rocking.

Philadelphia controlled the first period out shooting the Capitals 12-10. With 3:49 remaining in the 1st period, Flyers forward Scott Laughton tried getting inside position on Capitals defenceman John Carlson and fell awkwardly at a high speed and went back first into the boards. Laughton was stretchered out and sent to hospital for precautionary reasons. He remained conscious throughout the series of events.

The second was tightly contested with lots of physical play. This time for the Flyers it only took 3:51 for Andrew MacDonald to score and give the Flyers a 2-0 lead. The Flyers had the Capitals on the run as the Capitals couldn’t click.

In the third period the Caps finally found an answer to the lights out play of Neuvirth when TJ Oshie capitalized. The Flyers would be out shot 13-4 in the 3rd but would hang on and avoid elimination and cut the Capitals series lead to 3-1.

Game 5 will come Friday night in DC at 7 PM ET and can be seen on CBC and TVAS.
